Ardenil is a minor character in An Intimate History of the Greater Kingdom, appearing in book three, The Last Royal Mistress.

Ardenil had been a soldier his entire life. The only reason he hadn’t stayed with the Brothers was that he could not forget his sweetheart Elibetta, no matter how hard he tried - one of the more common reasons to wash out of the Brothers; finally, he gave up his postulancy, went home and married her, and joined the King’s Army as an officer.

He was, together with Dantono, one of the generals of Warin V's army at the battle of Guenor which ended the Guenor Rebellion. The King's forces were heavily outnumbered, and since Warin had lost control of Corland, Teacher could not destroy the defensive works of the rebel forces by magic. Faced with certain defeat, Ardenil and Dantono refused to lead their men into battle. When the King threatened to have them executed as traitors, Dantono fell on his sword and was beheaded by his friend Ardenil as a last act of mercy, loyalty and friendship. Ardenil, in turn, was beheaded by Teacher in one swift, magically executed stroke of his own sword.
