Harsin IV (b 949 KY)is a character from An Intimate History of the Greater Kingdom. He is the father of Sedra, Ellika and Temmin by his wife, Ansella of Whithorse, and of at least one illegitimate child, Mattie, whose mother is a former Whithorse maidservant named Tellis. He rarely shares his bed with his wife, but is more or less discreet at keeping a string of mistresses. When our story begins in 990 KY, the one we know of is a Miss Selvaci. Ansella and Harsin married in Spring's Beginning, 967 KY. He loves his wife, but they are both stubborn with hot tempers; her long-nurtured resentment of their arranged marriage and her raising of their children far away at her childhood Estate in Whithorse have driven a wedge between them. Even were they closer, Harsin would probably still have mistresses; he is a man of great sexual appetite, taking after his father.
Harsin is the youngest - and only legitimate - of four sons of Temmin V, and ascended to the throne of Tremont in 971 KY at age 22. Like his father, he was sent to boarding school at Parkdale for his primary schooling before his education was taken over by Teacher. His illegitimate brothers are a constant threat to his throne, though as the years have dragged on their assassination attempts against both him and Temmin have weakened.
Harsin is religious and believes in the old prophecy that Temmin joining the Lovers' Temple will lead to chaos. He can be ruthless but is not cruel for cruelty's sake; everything he does he believes to be for the good of the Kingdom.
Harsin's devoted secretary is Embis Winmer, who has been with him since his marriage to Ansella as Heir.

Ansella and Harsin married in Spring's Beginning of 967 KY.
