Mavierna is a character in the serial An Intimate History of the Greater Kingdom.

Mavierna is a character in at least one of ancient myth common in Tremont and Sairland called Ennia's Descent. She is a wise women, small and dark-eyed, a powerful user of women's magic, who was favored by the goddess Venna. Mavierna's protégé and lover was Ennia. Together they provided healing to the desperately ill and trained other wise women to go out and serve as healers and mediators with the gods in the time before the Temple system was established.

Mavierna lived in a remote forest with Ennia, but each year she made an annual pilgrimage to Venna's Grove on the goddess' holy day where she would spend a week healing and collecting new students. One year, she and Ennia were attacked and pursued by a lustful Temmarkur on their return trip from the sacred grove. Unable to get help due to Farr's interference, she drew Temmarkur's attention so that Ennia could escape and hide. Mavierna then drew in all the women's magic in the world to curse Temmarkur as he raped her, killing him. In revenge, Farr turned Mavierna into a pillar of stone (or in at least one version of the myth, a tree). Her lover Ennia set out to free her, but the myth ends with Ennia being told that Mavierna can only be freed by waiting for Farr's anger to fade and the stone imprisoning her to crumble.

The myth also says that women's magic disappeared from the world when Mavierna was imprisoned because she held all of that magic in her at that moment to create the fatal curse she'd put on Temmarkur.
