Northern Wastes

The Northern Wastes are an area to the north of the Greater Kingdom of Tremont and Leute on the Ammasian continent. It is populated by nomadic tribes as well as settled ones; the settled ones are more kingdoms than tribes, but Tremontine prejudice insists on the term "tribes." There have been border skirmishes and fights between Tremont, its once-independent duchies and the Northern Tribes for more than 800 years, with Tremont sometimes fighting off an incursion, sometimes trying to expand into the Northern Wastes. One of the main settled tribes call themselves the Gremas. Their seat is at Gremassem.
Under the rule of King Gethin IV, Warin the Wise led the combined Leuten and Tremontine troops which fought off the Northern Incursion at Dordemon and Montesurbis.
The Northern Tribes produce a fresh deer milk cheese that is akin to cottage cheese, but it must be eaten the day it's made; the rest of their deer milk cheeses harden very quickly, and are primarily used melted.

There have been border skirmishes and fights between Tremont and the Northern Tribes for more than 800 years, with Tremont sometimes fighting off an incursion, sometimes trying to expand into the Northern Wastes.

In 989 KY, gold was found north of the city of Arrentown, which is located northwest of Tremont just outside the Tremontine borders, setting off another movement agitating for outright conquest of the northern tribes.
