Ototo is a character in the serial An Intimate History of the Greater Kingdom, appearing in book three, The Last Royal Mistress.

He was a young, beautiful Inchari slave boy with dark skin, eyes and hair. He was bought by Commander Durrovid Bakerson for his wife Lisset as a page, as was the fashion at the time. Lisset soon after acquiring him started calling him Bear, and while he insisted on his name being Ototo, he eventually got used to it and the name stuck. Ironically, and unbeknownst to both at the time, Ototo means 'bear' in Ototo's native language.

Lisset was very attached to 'her little Bear', while he, despite being vaguely aware of his status as a slave, was equally fond of her and in fact occasionally felt protective of his 'Missy' despite being at least ten years her junior.

Bear faithfully followed and served Lisset despite her dismissing his advice. He secretly made preparations in the event they needed to leave suddenly by discreetly saving back some of the precious gifts that Lisset received from her lovers. Because of his foresight, they were able to escape Tremont when it became neccessary at the start of the Guenor Rebellion.

After fleeing from Tremont back to Alzeh, Ototo followed Lisset around the country until they wound up back at the town near Harritson's plantation. He eventually became the plantation’s majordomo, married the daughter of his old friend the cook, was freed by Lisset, and lived to 80. He died in his sleep surrounded by three generations of family.
