Pagg
From MeiLinWiki
Pagg is a god in the serial An Intimate History of the Greater Kingdom. Although He is the Father and the ruler of the gods His wife, Amma the Mother, was the first of the gods. There are conflicting views as to whether She is His mother or His sister, though it is not a hotly debated issue. In Sairland, Pagg is known as Palg.
He and Amma are monogamous. Together, they are referred to as The Parents. Their children in order of birth are:
- Eddin the Wise One
- Venna the Sister
- Farr the Warrior
- Harla the Bloody One
- Nerr the Lover and Neya the Beloved.
Prayers are conducted to Him on Paggday, equivalent to Sunday. It is also the major market day; outlying farmers come to town, many common people do their shopping for the week, and it is the closest thing to a day off that folks get. His holiday is Spring's Beginning, our Spring Equinox. Pagg's Day is a solemn occasion in which the Law is read in its entirety–at least, it starts on Pagg's Day. It takes at least a week for the Fathers to read out the Law from beginning to end, reading 24 hours a day. Only the most devout attend. More secularly, fathers are honored.
Pagg is the god of the law, order, and the status quo. His priests officiate at any kind of legal event, including contracts such as marriages, leases, and indentures, and legal records are kept at His Temple. All judges come from Pagg's clergy as well.
Pagg's priests are called Fathers. The high priest is called the Little Father.
Symbolism
Pagg's colors are purple and gold. His main symbol is the Book of Law, also called the Father's Testament or Pagg's Law for short. His animals are the dog and the eagle. It is traditional at the birth of a royal child for the Little Father to present the baby with a copy of the Book of Law.
Pagg is based on Various father gods, especially Zeus and Thor, without the grand passions and lightning/thunder. Also Confucius, to a degree.
