Simon Prake

Simon Prake is a character in the serial Scryer's Gulch. He is the oldest son of Mary and Anatole Prake.

Simon Prake is an ethergraph engineer and one of the best ethergraph operators of his time, and according to Annabelle Duniway was supposed to work in Jackson for the ethergraph research firm Feargal and Feargal, owned by his father. He owns several ethergraph-related patents, which have made him comfortably wealthy.

He is similar in age to Miss Duniway, no older than 24, and is described as having a warm, genuine, somewhat shy smile and a gentle handshake, being good-looking, with lovely brown eyes in a guileless face.

Simon Prake is the co-owner, with his father, of Prake's Hardware on the lower half of main street. He is also the owner of the ethergraph office on main street.

Both ventures had previously been co-owned by Simon and his former lover Cole Morton (the hardware store, the second but best of its kind in the town, was known as Morton and Prake at that time) before Simon's father bought him out. They were sent to Scryer's Gulch by the New Valley Printing Ethergraph Company to open the ethergraph office in town, two years before the story starts. About eighteen months later, Simon and Cole headed back to Jackson, where they had to live "in the closet" again. Shortly after they split up, Simon came back to Scryer's Gulch. Although Simon still regularly writes him, Cole stopped responding to his letters about the time he left Jackson.
