Sister's Temple

The Sister's Temple is a religious institution in the serial An Intimate History of the Greater Kingdom, dedicated to the worship of the goddess Venna. The priests of the Sister's Temple are also called Sisters.

The Sister's Temple is the home of the medical profession; it houses the local hospitals, for instance. It is divided into two parts, the Sister's Hearth, the actual place of worship that is also where the Sisters themselves live, and the Healer's House, where petitioners come for medical care. The Temple trains doctors, nurses and midwives, some but not all of whom are also priests and priestesses. Permanent Temple staff are either all female or men who identify as female.

There is a heretic faction within the Sister's Temple, founded by the late Annika of Leutefloss, that rejects these "male Sisters", preaches that Venna is the enemy of The Lovers and generally holds men in very low esteem. Around 990 KY, more than twenty years after Annika's death, the Sister's Temple is still plagued by this heretic underground movement.
