Standfast Jenks
From MeiLinWiki
Standfast Jenks is a character from An Intimate History of the Greater Kingdom. No one calls him "Standfast", though, he dislikes it. The only known exceptions are his mother and Queen Ansella, one of his oldest friends since childhood. Jenks comes from an old cavalry family, and was given his name during a fad for "old-fashioned names with meaning." The name of one of his brothers, for instance, is Valor, and he has one sister named Justice and another named Honor.
Jenks is from Whithorse, and was best friends with Ansella's brother Patrin, Duke of Whithorse. They served together in the cavalry, with Jenks as the Duke's aide-de-camp. When Patrin died in battle, Jenks felt responsible and was ready to resign in commission in grief until Teacher recruited him to watch over his friend's nephew Temmin as valet/bodyguard, a position he still holds. Teacher chose him for his loyalty to the Whithorse family and also in hopes he would pass on his love of horses and general good sense to Temmin, who was the first Heir in a few hundred years not to be sent away to school but kept home instead. Over the years he has become devoted to Temmin, and in many ways they look upon one another as father and son. Temmin himself has no idea in book one about Jenks's role as bodyguard, as he was kept in the dark about the many threats to his life as a child; Temmin thinks Jenks left the cavalry as a mere corporal and served as Patrin's batman. It has yet to occur to Temmin that most four-year-olds do not have valets.
Jenks is 44, born in 946 KY, and is still quite strong and athletic. He's more than capable of beating Temmin or just about anyone else in a sparring match. He is good-looking in a weather-beaten way, tall but not as tall as Temmin, balding with a neatly kept fringe of salt-and-pepper hair and a well-groomed beard. His eyes are brown.
Jenks, like most Tremontine cavalry officers, loves clothes and is a regular compendium of male sartorial elegance. He insists on Temmin being well turned-out for every and any event – sometimes a little too well turned-out.
Jenks is quite devout, being sure to make the rounds of all the temples at least once a month. He is officially devoted to Farr, as are most cavalry officers.

Jenks is quite devout, being sure to make the rounds of all the temples at least once a month. He is officially devoted to Farr, as are most cavalry officers, but has a strong affinity for The Lovers as well. He recently had to end a Petitioner relationship with the Lovers' Temple Supplicant Anda Barrows when he discovered she was also involved with Temmin. Currently he has no love interest, although he seems to have some kind of relationship with Britt Aneen, who helps him deal with his guilt regarding Patrin's death, and a friendship with Stewn.
