Teacher

The Teacher is the primary tutor and advisor to the royal family of Tremont. Teacher doesn't look over 30 but no one knows Teacher's actual age - which is almost certain to be more than a thousand years. Teacher is rumored to have taught all of the Tremonts going back some hundreds of years and has no other name that anyone knows but his title. He also intensely dislikes being called 'sir'. Teacher is dryly humorous, secretive, and affectionate in a way. In the main storyline's beginning in 990 KY, Teacher has just stopped the illicit instruction of Sedra and has begun recounting the History to Temmin.
Teacher claims to be the keeper of the royal family's magic, which once was controlled directly by the men of the family. Besides Connin, Teacher seems to be the only person in Tremont still capable of wielding male magic in 990 KY (the only female magic wielder in the world at that time is the Traveler Queen). We have seen Teacher observe other people and areas through mirrors and travel through mirrors, and we have seen Teacher use light wands. And then there's The Book. Teacher is magically bound to whoever is the rightful king of Tremont, or that king's regent.
In a long life, Teacher has also acquired a few non-magical talents including dancing, although it's not a favorite pastime. Teacher is also skilled with a dueling sword.
Teacher is in love with the Traveler Queen and has been for nigh on a millennium. In The Tale of Two Kingdoms, we see that they cannot be anywhere near each other without suffering intense, debilitating pain. He also seems to have a special connection to the Gods and Goddesses in general and the Lovers in particular: When Temmin drew down the Blessing during Neya's Spectacle in 990 KY, he could not talk with anyone about the images the Goddess showed him, not even with the Embodiments of the Lovers. He could talk about them with Teacher, though.
Appearance Iron-colored hair pulled back in a club, pale gray eyes, unlined, smooth face. Handsome in an androgynous way. Slender, middling height but seems much taller. Long, graceful hands. Prone to wearing black robes.
