The Book

The Book is fully titled "An Intimate History of the Greater Kingdom." It is of middling size, and is covered in Tremontine red leather. The Book is blank unless a story is told from it; at that point, the Book fills first with words, then with pictures. Then the reader's consciousness is taken into the Book and he or she experiences the story much like a movie, but fully able to feel the emotions of the characters.

There are two copies of The Book: One in the possession of The Teacher, one in the possession of the Traveler Queen. Both copies are the result of a collaboration between The Teacher and the Traveler Queen, as they require both male magic, working on inanimate things, and female magic, working on living beings, to function. The two copies seem to be magically linked, although the extent of that link is unclear.

While all that seems required to be able to tell a story from The Book is the ability to wield magic (as Brinnid was able to tell the story of Macca and Ilhovin to Sedra while at Tremont Keep and therefore unable to use his magic), some restricted parts of the stories can only be told by Teacher, and only to the rightful king. These restricted parts won't even appear to anyone attempting to tell a story from The Book but Teacher, and an attempt by Teacher to tell them to someone not allowed to hear it will result in debilitating pain to Teacher.
