The Chase

The Chase refers to at least two rituals within the Lovers' Temple.

Generally, the term refers to the god Nerr's pursuit of his twin sister, the goddess Neya. The Chase is re-enacted by the Embodiments of the Lovers' Temple while they are possessed by the gods during their Spectacles. The religious interpretation of the Chase also forms the basis for at least part of the Lovers' Testament.

In a specific sense, the Chase also refers to a lay individual's petition to become a Supplicant of the Lovers' Temple. For Temmin, this took the form of courting one of the current Lovers' Temple Embodiments, Allis Obby. It isn't known yet if this is a typical example, in part because of Temmin's rank as the royal heir, and also because he was not aware of what he was getting into until it was explained to him along the way.
