Venna

Venna the Sister is the oldest daughter of Pagg the Father and Amma the Mother. She is the keeper of the Hearth and a lover of women, although She is the consort of Eddin. Eddin's Courtships tells the story of how Eddin fell in love with Venna and, after learning the secrets of certain animal spirits, took on the form of a beautiful woman, in which He successfully seduced Venna. Eddin, in the throes of passion, was unable resist changing back into a man. Venna later found Herself with child, and gave birth to a son named Twilight. Twilight comes before His mother every night, as She sails across the sky in the boat of the moon. (Venna predicted Eddin would get His, and He did.)

The Sister's Temple is the home of the medical profession.

She is the goddess of home, health, spinning, and lesbians. Her day of the week is Vennaday, corresponding to our Saturday. Her holiday is Summer's End and corresponds with our Pagan holiday Lugh (approximately August 2nd). Venna's Day is celebrated with a blessing of beehives and the ceremonial beginning of the flax harvest.

The current Embodiment of Venna is Sarra, and her current high priestess is Eldest Sister Imvalda. The Sister's Temple currently has the royal patronage of Queen Ansella.

Symbolism

Venna's colors are green and gray. Her animals are the bee and the dove. Her symbols are the spindle and the oil lamp. At presentations, royal babies are given an oil lamp; girls are given a spindle and a broom in addition, and boys are given a tinder box.

Venna is based on Vesta, Athena, Hygiea and Her sisters, and Diana (though Diana's hunting aspect was given to Harla).
